The selection process will consist of multiple stages, including CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT, document verification, and medical examination. Postponement brings revised timeline for applicants
Aspiring candidates will be able to apply for the ALP post from April 12, 2025, by visiting the official application portal rrbapply.gov.in. RRB has advised candidates to ensure Aadhaar-based verification while submitting their applications, as failure to do so may result in delays due to detailed scrutiny at later stages. The Aadhaar credentials, including name and date of birth, must match exactly with the Class 10 certificate for seamless verification.
The age limit for applicants is between 18 to 30 years as of July 1, 2025. Reserved categories will receive relaxation in the upper age limit – 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (NCL), and 10 years for PwBD candidates, in line with government regulations.
Eligibility criteria and application fee
Candidates must possess one of the following qualifications to be eligible:
• Class 10 pass along with ITI in a relevant trade
• Class 10 pass and three-year diploma in engineering in a relevant trade
• Engineering degree in a related discipline is also acceptable
The application fee for General and OBC category candidates is Rs 500. Out of this, Rs 400 will be refunded to those who appear for the CBT 1 exam. For SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-servicemen, and women candidates, the fee is Rs 250, which will be fully refunded upon participation in CBT 1.

Selection process and examination structure
The recruitment process will follow a four-stage structure:
• CBT 1 (qualifying in nature)
• CBT 2 (used to shortlist for CBAT)
• CBAT (Computer-Based Aptitude Test – mandatory for final merit)

Document verification and medical examination
CBT 1 will be a 1-hour test with 75 questions, covering mathematics, reasoning, general science, and general awareness. Minimum qualifying marks are 40% for unreserved candidates, 30% for OBC and SC, and 25% for ST. A negative marking of 1/3 marks will apply for each incorrect answer.
CBT 2 will be held for those who qualify CBT 1. It will last 2 hours and 30 minutes and consist of two parts – Part A (90 minutes, 100 questions on general subjects) and Part B (60 minutes, 75 questions from the relevant trade syllabus). Part B has a flat qualifying criterion of 35% for all categories.
CBAT will follow for successful candidates and will have no negative marking. All candidates must score a minimum of 42 marks to qualify, regardless of category. The final stage is document verification, where original documents and medical fitness will be verified.
