Kia’s latest SUV in India, the Syros, has received a full five-star safety rating from the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP). The Syros scored an impressive 30.21 out of 32 in the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category and 44.42 out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection (COP), making it one of the safest cars in its class.

Bharat NCAP evaluated two variants of the Syros during its crash testing: the HTK (O) manual and HTX Plus automatic, both powered by the 1.0-litre GDi turbocharged petrol engine.

The tests conducted as part of the assessment included a frontal offset impact at 63.95 kmph, side impact at 50.17 kmph, and a pole side impact at 29.17 kmph. In the frontal offset test, the Syros received 14.21 out of 16 points, with the safety report marking good protection for the head and neck of both front occupants. The chest and knees were rated as adequately protected. For the side impact test, the vehicle received a perfect 16 out of 16, while its performance in the pole impact test was rated as “OK.”

The Kia Syros delivered excellent results in child safety tests, scoring 23.42 out of 24 in the dynamic assessment. Both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were placed in Joie i-Spin 360 rearward-facing child seats, secured using ISOFIX and support leg. The younger dummy scored 7.58/8 in frontal and 4/4 in side impact tests, while the older child scored 7.84/8 and 4/4 respectively.

Apart from its safety credentials, the Syros is also well-equipped on the features front. It comes with six airbags as standard, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX mounts, and a Level 2 ADAS suite. Buyers also get a 360-degree camera, an electronic parking brake, and parking sensors at both ends.
Under the hood, the Syros is offered with two engine options: a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol motor producing 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque, and a 1.5-litre CRDi diesel engine with 114 bhp and 250 Nm.
