IPL 2025: Why are Royal Challengers Bengaluru wearing green jersey against Rajasthan Royals? | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) took the field in their iconic green jerseys against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, reinforcing their commitment to environmental sustainability. The special edition jersey is part of RCB’s annual “Go Green” initiative to raise awareness about conservation and encourage fans to plant more trees.
After winning the toss, RCB skipper Rajat Patidar opted to bowl first and highlighted the reason behind the green kit. “We will bowl first. Surface looks pretty hard and good. We will know how the pitch behaves. This (green jersey) is to raise awareness to plant more trees. Same team for us,” Patidar said.

Speaking ahead of the match, Patidar emphasised that the occasion holds added meaning for the team. “It’s a special game for us with our green initiative, and wearing the green jersey makes it even more special and exciting,” he said. “We take it one game at a time. If everyone is confident, we look to make the most of it. We’ll focus on playing good cricket, not on which venue it is.”
RCB’s green jersey is made from PUMA’s RE:FIBRE fabric — crafted from 95% recycled polyester sourced from textile and plastic waste. The kit is designed to be recycled multiple times without compromising quality. Fans can return the jersey next season for a new one, completing RCB’s sustainability cycle: Return. Recycle. Repeat.
RCB COO Rajesh Menon added, “Our green jerseys are more than just a symbol; they are a call to action. As proud representatives of the Garden City, sustainability is a natural priority for us.”
