2025 Tata Altroz vs Hyundai i20 vs Maruti Baleno vs Toyota Glanza: Mileage comparison

Tata Motors recently launched the Altroz facelift in India with prices starting at Rs 6.89 lakh, ex-showroom. The updated hatchback not only gets cosmetic and feature enhancements but also debuts as the only model in its segment to offer three fuel options: petrol, diesel, and CNG. With fuel efficiency playing a major role in buyer decisions, Tata has now revealed the mileage figures for the diesel and CNG variants of the new Altroz, allowing us to compare them with its closest rivals: the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Hyundai i20. Here’s a quick look at how these models stack up against each other.
Tata Altroz vs rivals: CNG mileage comparison
In the CNG category, the Altroz is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 72.4 bhp and 103 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. The CNG trim of this powertrain returns a claimed mileage of 26.90 km/kg and features a 60-litre dual-cylinder CNG tank, which helps free up boot space. The Baleno and Glanza, on the other hand, use a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder engine that delivers 76.4 bhp and 98.5 Nm, and both return a segment-best mileage of 30.61 km/kg, although with a slightly smaller 55-litre single-cylinder CNG tank. Hyundai currently does not offer a CNG variant in the i20 lineup, giving the Altroz and its Japanese rivals an edge in this category.
Tata Altroz vs rivals: Diesel mileage comparison
When it comes to diesel, the Altroz remains the only premium hatchback in India to offer a diesel motor after others exited the space due to stricter emission norms. The 1.5-litre diesel motor on the Altroz delivers 88.7 bhp and 200 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata claims a mileage of 23.60 kmpl for this variant.
Tata Altroz vs rivals: Petrol mileage
Tata hasn’t yet announced the official mileage for the Altroz petrol variant. It uses a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine producing 86.7 bhp and 115 Nm of torque. Comparatively, the Baleno and Glanza claim 22.35 kmpl with manual and 22.94 kmpl with AMT. The Hyundai i20, with its 1.2-litre petrol engine, is rated at approximately between 20-21.5 kmpl for both manual and IVT variants.
