UPSC launches new online application portal for exams to simplify registration: Check details here

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has launched a revamped Online Application Portal designed to simplify the registration and application process for all its competitive examinations. The new system, now live at upsconline.nic.in, replaces the older One-Time Registration (OTR) module, which will no longer be functional. The official notice says, “Applicants are strongly advised to use their Aadhaar Card as ID document in the Universal Application for easy, effortless and seamless verification and authentication of ID and other details, after which it serves as a permanent and common record for all examinations.”This advance-fill model is expected to minimize last-minute traffic surges on the website by allowing candidates to prepare their profiles early. Once the first three parts are completed, aspirants only need to fill in exam-specific information when a notification is released, saving time and avoiding submission errors close to deadlines.
Four-module system introduced
The upgraded portal introduces a four-part structure, enabling candidates to enter most of their information in advance and apply quickly when exam notifications are released. The four modules include:
- Account Creation
Universal Registration - Common Application Form
- Examination Section
The first three sections contain details that remain common across all exams and can be completed at any time. Only the Examination section requires input during the specific application window of a notified examination.UPSC is encouraging applicants to use their Aadhaar card as their primary ID during Universal Registration. Aadhaar-linked registration ensures smooth verification and authentication, and once completed, it becomes a permanent identity record for all future applications.
Fresh registration mandatory
All candidates—regardless of past registration—must now re-register on the new portal. The old OTR system will no longer be valid, and previously saved data will not be carried over. Applicants must also upload all required documents afresh as part of the updated process.
What candidates should do now
Applicants planning to appear for upcoming UPSC exams are advised to:
- Visit https://upsconline.nic.in
- Complete the first three modules well before any exam notification
- Use Aadhaar for seamless authentication
- Follow instructions carefully during form submission
Aspirants are advised to stay tuned to the official website to get the latest updates of the UPSC recruitment process.
