Tripura government to develop data centers for AI-5G synergy

Tripura government has been working to develop an infrastructure to support AI and 5G network in the state. CM Manik Saha said that AI reduces operational complexity by using smart algorithms to perform a variety of tasks, leading to faster performance, greater efficiency, and lower costs.Simultaneously, 5G technology transfers information quickly. He also said that combining these two technologies would lead to greater innovation and some very interesting applications.Speaking at a special session called ‘IT for Ashtalakshmi: Beyond the Bits and Bytes, Into AI and 5G’ during the Rising Northeast Investors’ Summit 2025 in New Delhi, Saha praised the ministry of development of north eastern region (DoNER) for hosting the event.Highlighting the synergy between emerging technologies, Saha said, “It is a symbiotic relationship between 5G and AI.”“As AI expands, the cost of connectivity continues to decline. The convergence of 5G and AI is not just about speed, it is going to cater to the demands of next-generation activities,” he said, quoted PTI.Saha said his government has already made significant headway in 5G deployment, with all towns and 583 villages in the state now connected. He added that land has been allocated for new data centres in Tripura, which will serve as a digital hub for the entire eastern and northeastern belt of India.“Deploying AI applications with the development of 5G will bring opportunities across various industries and sectors,” he said.By embracing AI and 5G, new avenues for growth, innovation, and prosperity can be unlocked. He also said that the state is now heading towards a paperless administration, slashing file clearance times from nine days to just three, saving the over Rs 50 crore annually.“As we move forward, we plan to leverage AI and 5G to drive growth, innovation, and prosperity across all northeastern states, including introducing single-window digital platforms,” Saha said.
